Life Events

Although the primary work of The Bishop's Ranch is hosting groups and individuals for retreats, as a ministry of the Diocese of California The Ranch is available for your most significant life events including, but not limited to, baptisms, weddings and memorials. Reach out to us below for more information.

Life Event Guidelines

Baptisms and Memorials

Baptisms and Memorials are offered through The Chapel of St. George, a Chapel Peculiar within the Diocese of California. Requests must be submitted to and approved by Father Brendan Williams and are primarily reserved for members of the Chapel of St. George or, occasionally, the broader Ranch Community.

Weddings*

The Bishop’s Ranch hosts weddings under the following stipulations.

General

  • A primary member of the wedding party or their immediate family must have a relationship with The Ranch, the Episcopal Diocese of California, or The Episcopal Church.

  • Weddings require more from The Ranch staff, facilities and food service, therefore our fees for weddings are greater than standard group reservations.

  • A primary member of the wedding party must sign a commitment to the care and protection of The Ranch property and Ranch Staff.

  • The Ranch will not arrange for more than six weddings in a calendar year, including midweek and weekend events.

  • Weddings can be held on dates and times designated as available for the purpose by The Ranch staff leadership only.

  • The pool and hiking trails are off-limits from 3 p.m. on the day of the wedding until the following morning.

Capacity

  • For a chapel wedding, the maximum number of people, including the wedding party, is 85.

  • Pavilion weddings, dinners, receptions, or outdoor ceremonies are limited to 120, including the wedding party.

Wedding Coordinators

  • The wedding party must have an independent day-of wedding coordinator or planner, approved by The Ranch.

  • Negotiable for weddings under 50 people

Food & Beverage

  • The Ranch provides all catering.

  • Additional service staff may be required, depending on the size and scope of the event.

  • The Ranch reserves the right to decide what constitutes reasonable consumption of alcohol. Serving of alcohol must cease by 9:30 pm.

  • Weddings that serve alcohol require overnight lodging at The Ranch or shuttle service and designated drivers.

  • Bartenders must be utilized to serve and monitor alcohol consumption. A designated sober, responsible party must be in attendance until the end of the event.

Vendors

  • The Ranch has preferred vendors. Any vendors not on the preferred list must be approved by The Ranch.

Quiet Hours

  • Quiet hours begin at 10:00 pm and end at 7:30 am

  • Amplified sound and music must cease by 9:45 pm

  • All guests and vendors must observe quiet hours and be inside their rented facilities or off-site by 11:00 pm.

  • The Ranch will not arrange for more than six weddings in a calendar year, including midweek and weekend events

All weddings require a security deposit equal to 20% of their total wedding package. This deposit will be forfeited in cases of excessive cleaning, damages, and/or violating quiet hours or alcohol policies. A gratuity of 18% will be added to your final invoice unless The Ranch Wedding Coordinator approves alternative methods.
