The Bishop’s Ranch is a self-supporting institution of the Episcopal Diocese of California.

The Ranch hosts a wide variety of church groups, religious groups, secular groups, community groups, and nonprofit organizations. We provide a quiet space in a beautiful setting where details are tended to and distractions of everyday life are removed. Our hospitality is offered with the goal of enabling your group to reach their goals for spiritual, personal, and organizational renewal and growth.

Meals are lovingly prepared from scratch by our incredible kitchen team and served buffet style in the spirit of community.

Groups may hold retreats and gatherings with overnight accommodations or day use meetings and events. We offer a variety of meeting spaces to serve the needs of your group. Visit our Facilities page to learn more.

Group Reservations are guided by the following policies:

  • Recurring Groups (Including Episcopal Diocese of California Parishes) Get Priority Booking: Many of our groups return year after year. We hope that once you experience the Ranch, your group will become a recurring group as well. As a recurring group, you receive the benefit of confirming your dates for next year’s retreat before we open reservations to new groups.
  • Our Group Reservations Are “By Building”
    • In our reservation by-building model each building in your contract will have a Ranch-determined “up to X number of guests” assigned to it, and the building charge will include lodging, meal package, and use fees for any number of guests up to that Ranch-determined number. You can bring any number of guests up to that number before incurring an extra per-person charge.
    • Additional adult guests over the “up to” number of guests for each building will be charged an additional flat fee for lodging, use and meals. The Ranch will not charge for additional children and youth over the “up to” number of guests for your contract.
    • It is up to your group to decide how to charge individuals to make up the total for your reservation. Our model is intended to give groups the autonomy and freedom to decide how they wish to occupy the spaces. Many groups find that planning for two paying adults per room works well for them, while other groups charge more and plan for single-occupancy.
    • Often groups with families in attendance charge based on two paying guests per room which allows additional youth and children to stay free (or reduced) when staying with parents/guardians in one of our family-style rooms, but again this is entirely up to you.
  • Our Reservations Team Will Help Create A Package That Works For Your Group
    • We work to maximize the use and enjoyment of the Ranch while making sure each group has the appropriate amount and type of lodging and meeting space for their goals. Our team will help guide you in this process and prepare a quote based on your needs.
    • Please know that fees charged to guests account for only 75% of the true cost of running the Ranch. The rest of our operating budget comes from the generosity of donors to the Annual Fund. Consider sharing in the mission of the Ranch by contributing to the Annual Fund.
    • We want everyone to enjoy The Ranch when possible, so we also offer Ranch Partnership to many groups and individuals who need scholarship funds to attend the Ranch. Please work with our reservations team and we’ll do what we can to make it work for your group.
