Summer Camp Staffing

If you love working on a team, the outdoors, singing, having fun, and making difference in children’s lives then our summer camp staff may be the place for you. We’re looking for an Assistant Camp Director, Ranch Hands, Camp Counselors, and Volunteer Counselors.

Summer Camp Staff 2019

The Bishop’s Ranch offers one weekend and six week-long summer camp programs. These include, three intergenerational camps, one day camp (READ Camp), and three overnight youth camps (BREAD Camp: Bishop’s Ranch Exploration Adventure & Discovery). At our camps, we create a supportive community where campers learn about themselves and their peers through play, thoughtful discussions, and creative projects. They have opportunities to develop leadership skills, explore their spiritual lives, and deepen their connection to nature.

Responsibilities for all staff positions

  • Provide an experience of welcoming community that promotes social, emotional, spiritual and physical safety for all
  • Supervise and support campers
  • Work as part of a team
  • Support the work of camp chaplains
  • Attend to personal health and well-being; be a good steward of personal energy and resources

All staff are required to attend a staff training session prior to the beginning of summer camps. Ranch Hands and Camp Counselors are 18 years old and/or have completed one year of college or equivalent work experience. Volunteer counselors are entering 12th grade or older. All summer camp staff are residential and seasonal employees.

Ranch Hand

Ranch Hands take the lead in creating a welcoming, safe, fun, community where campers and staff can grow and flourish. As a team, Ranch Hands provide continuity of program and ethos throughout all camps at The Bishop’s Ranch.

During youth camps, Ranch Hands are first and foremost counselors, facilitating activities and small groups, keeping campers engaged and safe. They sleep in cabins, occasionally rotating out for a week. During intergenerational camps, they take leadership with the youth-specific activities and serve as support staff. Ranch Hands need to be flexible, energetic, love working with kids, and be willing to pitch in– wherever needed!

Camp Counselors share the work with Ranch Hands, but they serve only a portion of the summer season (3-4 weeks). They help create a welcoming, safe, fun, community where campers and staff can grow and flourish. They will co-lead cabins alongside Ranch Hands and participate in all areas of camp.

Volunteer Counselor

Volunteer Counselors provide unpaid support to the camp staff for one or more sessions and receive one week of staff training. Volunteer positions are open for youth camps based on staffing needs after Ranch Hands and Camp Counselors have been hired.
