Assistant Kitchen Manager

We are currently looking for qualified candidates for the newly-created position of Assistant Kitchen Manager. This person will assist the kitchen manger in kitchen operations and serve as a lead cook.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Schedule cooking staff, consulting with Kitchen Manager prior to publication
  • Lead a team in preparing, presenting and cleaning up from meals
  • Receive and put away orders, following up on any missing items
  • Assist Kitchen Manager in kitchen operations, including
    Meeting with Kitchen Manager on regular basis to prepare for incoming groups
    Ensuring kitchen is fully stocked< br/>
    Helping generate weekend prep list< br/>
    Checking Pavilion kitchen on on-going basis to ensure it is fully stocked
    Restocking breads and breakfast items for weekend meals
    Keeping Kitchen Manager informed of pertinent information relating to staff, inventory
    and/or equipment
  • Fill in for Kitchen Manager when Manager is gone for extended period, including
    Planning menus as needed
    Ordering food and supplies
    Supervising staff
    Generating prep list
    Checking in with Hospitality Director on a regular basis
    Attending weekly Leadership meeting
  • Provide administrative support including
    Providing input for kitchen employees’ performance reviews
    Assisting in interviewing potential employees
    Working with reservation staff, update monthly calendar
    Copying and filing calendars and prep lists
    Posting up-to-date phone list
  • Assure that Kitchen is clean and meets all health and safety codes
  • Maintain a safe and pleasant working environment in the kitchen
  • Other projects as assigned by supervisor


We’re looking for a people person with

  • Skills and experience in menu planning, quantity cooking and purchasing
    At least 3 years of experience working in a commercial kitchen
    At least 2 years of supervisory experience
  • Clear and concise communication skills
  • Ability to work well with others in a sometimes stressful environment
  • Knowledge of kitchen sanitation and safe working practices
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Flexibility and confidence to make changes to menus as necessary depending on supplies available, changes in numbers of guests or special dietary needs
  • Knowledge of operation of food preparation equipment such as slicer, commercial mixer, gas stove, grille, and ovens, dishwasher, food processors, barbecue, and other commercial kitchen equipment
  • Religious/Spiritual sensitivity to group needs
  • Good physical health and capable of lifting 40 pounds unassisted, able to lift 60 pounds with assistance
  • Able to work standing and walking for an eight hour shift
